Assessment 1: Literature Review
TITLE: Children’s Rights, Social Justice, and Advocacy in Early Childhood Education
WEIGHTING: 30%
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Appraise contemporary early childhood social justice issues and apply this knowledge through pedagogical practices to facilitate each child’s rights, agency, identity, and well-being.
- Formulate personal social justice and advocacy teaching and leadership identities within the global early childhood education context.
LENGTH: 2000 words in a research article format

For the assessment task you will need to complete a literature review on children’s rights, social justice, and advocacy in early childhood education.
This will include:
Identification of a ‘Children’s rights across the globe’ topic or issue that you are personally interested in advocating for as an early childhood professional.
Creation of a thesis question on your topic or issue requiring further exploration. This must be presented to the subject lecturer during class in week 3 of subject delivery.
Once your topic or issue and thesis question are approved you will:
Gather literary evidence to conduct and write a literature review on your thesis question.
Critically examine the research findings within your literary evidence.
Provide recommendations and strategies that will enable your children’s rights topic or issue to be advocated for by the early childhood profession.
Conclude your literature review by answering your thesis question.
