The assessment instructions have been designed to enable you to understand what is required to succeed in this assignment.
The essay is to include a comprehensive discussion and commentary of a contemporary issue in mental health and/or mental illness and how the issue is addressed by the standards of mental health care.
• Contemporary = happening or occurring in the present.
• Issue = an important topic or problem for discussion or debate.
The assignment should clearly identify the contemporary issue and its direct relevance to mental health and /or mental illness, and why it is deemed a contemporary issue.The assignment should also clearly identify the direct relevance to a diverse, at-risk, or vulnerable group and present a comprehensive review and discussion of the literature on the chosen contemporary issues.
Students can draw from and expand on any of the key contemporary issues and content discussed in modules 1-8.
Important points to consider:
- Evaluate existing literature on why your chosen issue is prevalent or common in that specific population?
- What are the psychosocial ramifications of the issue on your chosen group?
- How, then, does the issue affect the mental health of your chosen population?
- You can discuss the global impacts, but you also need to contextualise the issue to the Australian context.
Specific assessment details:
- Include a standard introduction that sets up the context of your work and clearly highlights what you will be discussing.
- Include a standard conclusion, which should be a summary of the key points made, reaffirming the main discussion points.
- References need to support your work, and recency of evidence-based practice (references) should be within the last five (5) years of publication, where applicable.
- Use the SNM assignment template APA 7, to set up the structure for the introduction, case summary, commentary and conclusion.
