a. Deconstruct contemporary sociology, theories and influences of family and community contexts on young children’s development and learning;
b. Evaluate social policy that influences the social behaviour, relationships, interactions, culture and contexts of children, families, and communities;
c. Assess the diversity, complexity, changing nature and challenging contexts encountered by families and the impact on children’s development in contemporary society; and
d. Detect and evaluate contextualised research, projects, programs, resilience-raising strategies and approaches to work with and support family and community contexts in early childhood education.

For the assessment task, you will need to consult with the subject lecturer to nominate a key issue within early childhood learning contexts affecting children, families, and communities. You can choose from the following list or negotiate with your lecturer about another relevant issue:

Use your nominated issue to prepare a report which identifies and evaluates contextualised policy, research, projects, programs, government and community organisations, resilience-raising strategies and approaches to work with and supporting children, families, and the community in early childhood education.
Ensure your report: Has a title that encapsulates the topic you are reporting on. The title should be no more than 10-15 words.
Outlines the nominated context as a key issue within early childhood service provision.
Identifies, outlines, and evaluates the current Australian social situation (statistics) and current social policy related to the topic.
Identifies the current Australian and State Government departments and initiatives for the topic.
Outlines five (5) solutions-based, resilience-raising strategies and approaches to work with and support children, families, and the community on the topic.
Identifies and describes five (5) relevant community organisations and/or external professionals who are appropriate to support children, families, and early childhood services working with families experiencing the topic.
